Comcast and the Google Group teamed up to launch a new network of data centers and software centers in 2015, according to a New York Times report on the project.
The two companies signed a deal to provide software for Comcast’s massive data centers.
The technology center will be used to handle “critical applications” like voice- and video-calling, web and mobile apps, and video game servers, according the report.
Comcast and its Google rivals, however, will not be building any data centers at the new centers.
They will instead operate out of a giant data center in Texas.
Comcast’s acquisition of Google was the first in a series of acquisitions that has transformed the broadband industry since its launch in 2007.
The merger, announced by then-CEO Brian Roberts, led to the consolidation of cable companies and the formation of Comcast-owned NBCUniversal, which owns the NBCUniversal network.
The company also has been in the news recently over the treatment of workers at the facilities where it is building its new data centers, and the controversy surrounding its alleged sexual harassment policies.
Comcast has denied the allegations of harassment and said it would cooperate with the Justice Department in the investigation.
Google’s data centers are a more recent development, and their location is less important than their technological capabilities.
The San Francisco company’s technology center has more than 1 million servers, making it the largest provider of high-speed Internet and mobile data in the United States.
Google has a network of 1.3 million data centers across the globe.
The companies announced the deal in a joint statement on Wednesday, calling it “the next generation of Google,” and the acquisition “a win for everyone.”
The new facilities will be built in the Silicon Valley city of Mountain View, California, and will be operated by Google’s parent company Alphabet.
The Times report did not identify the companies behind the data centers or the technology they will support.
Comcast did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Comcast is the country’s largest cable provider, with about 22 million subscribers and about 8 million internet customers.
Google and Comcast are among the largest cable companies in the world.
Google owns the Google Search and YouTube video services and Comcast owns the Comcast Cable TV and Internet service.
